How to use Clearspace Grid Generator

The Clearspace Grid Generator creates a protective boundary around your logo to ensure it remains legible and uncluttered in any application.

Step 1: Open the Extension

Navigate to Window > Extensions > Akrivi Gridit in the top menu bar. This will open the panel where you can access the Clearspace Grid Generator tab.

Step 2: Prepare your groups

Before using the tool, you must ensure your logo components are grouped correctly in Illustrator.

  1. Select your Logomark (the icon) and group it (Cmd/Ctrl + G).
  2. Select your Logotype (the text) and group it (Cmd/Ctrl + G).
  3. Select both groups and create a final group for the full lockup.

Important: If your logomark and logotype are not grouped separately, the tool cannot distinguish between them to measure the exclusion zone correctly.

Step 3: Select your logo

Select the full logo lockup on your artboard.

Step 4: Choose your exclusion metric

In the Clearspace tab of Akrivi Gridit, choose how you want to measure the safe zone:

  • Logomark: Uses the dimensions of your logomark group to calculate the space (e.g., 50% of the logomark height).
  • Pixels / Centimeters / Inches: Allows you to input a specific fixed measurement (e.g., 20px or 1cm) for the safe zone.

Step 5: Generate

Click Generate. The tool will:

  1. Create a bounding box around your logo.
  2. Place the visual measurement guides (e.g., the 'x' squares) on the sides.
  3. Group elements on a dedicated "Clearspace Grid Generator" layer.
